Play Synopsis

This Greek Tragedy tells the story of Antigone, a young political activist who is striving for what she feels is just, and Creon, an aging politician who is desperate to maintain his position of power and make the right choice.

 

This production will be set in the modern American, political scheme. 

We will be examining how family dynamics combine and collide with

political turmoil.

Character Descriptions:

Antigone - A young political activist, who is in adamant opposition to the unjust laws that have been passed. She is filled with conviction and commitment to her cause, even if it means the end of her life.

(Feminine Presenting, Early - Mid 20s)

Creon - An aging politician who is desperate to hold onto his position of power, and to make the right choices. He is a tempered and controlled individual, but there is a deep fear and anger just below the surface.

(Masculine Presenting, Early - Mid 50s)

​

Other than the two characters described above, all characters will be double cast, with each actor playing a chorus member.

​

Ismene/Eurydice/Chorus - A gentle and kind young woman, aged beyond her years by the grief and hardships that she has experienced. Loves her sister deeply, and fears the consequences of Antigone's choices.

(Feminine Presenting, Late Teens - Early 20s)

 

A dutiful wife, married to Creon, desperate to help her husband understand the effect that he can have, for the better and for the worse.

(Feminine Presenting, Early - Mid 50s)

Haimon/Chorus - A man in love, he wants the best for his country, his family, and his future. He is willing to use the sway that he holds over his father (Creon) to his advantage. Haimon loves Antigone, and will do most anything for her, but he understands when one must play the game.

(Masculine Presenting, Mid - Late 20s)

​

Teiresias/Chorus - A faithful adviser, dedicated to his own success and that of his country. A confidant and friend to Creon, but sympathetic to the cause of the younger characters within the play.

(Masculine Presenting, Early - Mid 60s)

​

Messenger/Watchmen/Chorus - A source of important information within the play, as well as comic relief. This character often delivers news from outside of the immediate story, bringing the characters and the audience up to speed. This character also offers moments of levity, in an otherwise serious story.

(Gender Neutral, Early - Mid 30s)
